Grzegorz and Patrycja Markowski, Grzegorz Skawiński and Jan Borysewicz are the first artists to help break the World Guitar Record on 19 June. This year the event will take place at the Pergola in Wrocław, as well as online. The orchestra will be conducted by Leszek Cichoński.

Nie płacz Ewka and Foxy Lady with the Markowskis

During the World Guitar Record we will hear Nie płacz Ewka, the cult song by the band Perfect composed by Zbigniew Hołdys. It will be sung by Grzegorz Markowski himself, a composer and songwriter, singer and frontman of Perfect, one of the most prominent and popular Polish rock musicians, performer of such hits as Autobiografia, Niewiele ci mogę dać and Chcemy być sobą. The song Foxy Lady will be performed by Patrycja Markowska – one of the most recognizable and successful artists on the Polish music scene. She has released 8 studio albums, 2 live albums and 46 singles, many of which hit the top of the charts and stayed there for a long period of time. Her 2017 album Krótka płyta o miłości features Patrycja's duets with Leszek Możdżer, Marek Dyjak, Ray Wilson and Grzegorz Skawiński. In 2019, Patrycja and Grzegorz Markowski released an album entitled Droga. The duo will be joining the Record online.

Zawsze tam, gdzie ty with Borysewicz

'I suggested to Janek that we all should play the hit Zawsze tam, gdzie ty together. I think it will be great fun for all the Record breakers,' says Leszek Cichoński, the leader of The World Guitar Record. Borysewicz is a guitar virtuoso, often called 'the wizard of melody'. He writes excellent and timeless works – Lady Pank's songs continue to be enjoyed by the third generation of listeners. Borysewicz began his career at the age of 17. He recorded three albums with Budka Suflera, including the most famous Za ostatni grosz. In 1981, together with Andrzej Mogielnicki, he formed the band Lady Pank, which remains successful to this day. He has performed in Poland, Europe, America, and Asia. He has pursued numerous solo projects, e.g. the Jan Bo trio. The artists he has collaborated with include Grzegorz Ciechowski, Tadeusz Nalepa, Urszula, Ewa Bem, Edyta Bartosiewicz, Majka Jeżowska and Krzysztof Krawczyk. Together with Paweł Kukiz, he recorded the platinum album Borysewicz Kukiz. Jan Borysewicz is also a producer and film music composer.

Hendrix's greatest hits with Skawiński

On 19 June we will also listen to one of the most important Polish guitarists and singers. Grzegorz Skawiński came to prominence as a member of the band Kombi. The turning point in his career was a visit to the USA. Inspired by the work of such guitar virtuosos as Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore and Steve Vai, he decided to play heavy guitar rock and formed Skawalker, a band with which he earned many distinctions, some of them in recognition of his achievements as a guitarist. When Agnieszka Chylińska joined the band, Skawalker changed into O.N.A., a group that has made its name in the history of Polish rock music. Skawiński currently plays in the band Kombii. 2020 saw the release of two singles: Przetrwamy and Ochronię nas, heralding the group's new studio album. Apart from that, the artist has also released a number of solo records.

Hey Joe at the Pergola and online

This year the guitar players will come together on 19 June at the Pergola, as well as online. The new date and location ensure that the event can be organised safely and in compliance with epidemic regulations. Next year, the festival will return to Wrocław's Market Square. The organisers invite guitar fans from all over the world to join them online. 'Music has no borders. We want to ensure that everyone who will not be able to come to Wrocław can join the record-breaking. This time we are beating the world record, so we are counting on active participation across the globe, from Wrocław to Zanzibar', says Leszek Cichoński. In 2020, the Guitar Record was held entirely online. As many as 7,998 guitarists from all over the world gathered to play Hey Joe from their homes, gardens and balconies. The participants submitted over 5,000 photos and videos, and the concert broadcast attracted a total of over 110 thousand viewers, from Poland to Spain to the UK and the United States.
