What is the Guitar Guinness Record? The annual guitar festival is most of all an occasion for collective play, meetings and exchange of experience, and during this event, an attempt to break the Guinness record is made.

The online World Guitar Record is ours – 7 998 guitarists played together!

The 18th edition of the Guitar Record is going down in history! For the first time it was held entirely online. The legendary "Hey Joe" conducted by Leszek Cichoński was performed by as many as 7 998 guitarists. This time not at Wrocław's Market Square, but at home, in the windows and on the balconies. The members of the guitar orchestra included Jennifer Batten, Mrozu, LeBurn Maddox, Jan Borysewicz, Sebastian Riedel, Mietek Jurecki, Tomasz Zeliszewski, Wojciech Pilichowski and Marco Bartoccioni.

This year the participants had to register by e-mail on 1st May. The Guitar Record received applications from all over the world – from Poland, to Norway, Italy, Spain, London and the USA.

They played for Hendrix, Lipko and... the medical personnel.

The outstanding guitarists who played as the greatest online guitar orchestra on 1st May were joined by Jennifer Batten, well known for her collaboration with Michael Jackson, and Stan Skibby, Jimi Handrix' double. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Hendrix's death – during the Guitar Record we heard his greatest hits, including "Foxy Lady" and "Voodoo Child". The members of the band Budka Suflera – Mietek Jurecki and Tomasz Zeliszewski, together with Bart Sosnowski, performed the song "Jest taki samotny dom" in tribute to Romuald Lipko. Sebastian Riedel sang "W życiu piękne są tylko chwile" – one of the most beautiful Polish rock hits. The song was dedicated to medical personnel around the world. We also heard the hits of Carlos Santana. The online formula of the Record didn't discourage the organisers from holding the annual competitions for a guitar made of just anything and for the best outfit.

The World Guitar Record was accompanied by a fundraiser for seriously ill children under the care of the ZOBACZ MNIE Foundation. Donations can still be made until 3rd May. Everyone who contributes a minimum of 25 PLN will get a chance to win a unique guitar designed by Szymon Chwalisz, the maker of the legendary Woodstock guitars. The artist's special design work painted on the guitar depicts the deserted Wrocław's Market Square in the times of quarantine – the place that has been gathering thousands of people for years today stands empty as never before. The prize draw will take place on 8th May. More details at www.zobaczmnie.org.

This was a unique edition of the Record. It will be marked as a "special online edition" – next year we will still need a minimum of 7 424 guitars to break the record again. In 2021 we are playing at Wrocław's Market Square!
