What is the World Guitar Record? The annual guitar festival is most of all an occasion for collective play, meetings and exchange of experience, and during this event, an attempt to break the Guinness record is made.

The 18th edition of the Guitar Record starts this Friday, 1st May, and for the first time ever will be held entirely online. This year we will play the legendary "Hey Joe" at home, in the windows, on balconies and in the gardens. Despite its distinct formula, the festival brings together such eminent artists as Jennifer Batten, Stan Skibby, LeBurn Maddox, Jan Borysewicz, Wojciech Pilichowski, Budka Suflera and Sebastian Riedel. The Record will also feature a charity action in support of the ZOBACZ MNIE Foundation. The live broadcast launches on 1st May at 12:00 p.m. via www.heyjoe.pl.

The biggest world guitar orchestra online will be conducted by Leszek Cichoński!

Playing for Hendrix, Lipko and... the medical staff

Among the outstanding guitarists who will perform online as the greatest guitar orchestra on 1st May is Jennifer Batten, well known for her collaboration with Michael Jackson, and Stan Skibby, Jimi Hendrix' double. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Hendrix's death – during the Guitar Record we will hear his greatest hits, including "Hey Joe", "Foxy Lady" and "Voodoo Child". The members of the band Budka Suflera – Mietek Jurecki and Tomasz Zeliszewski, together with Bart Sosnowski, will perform the song "Jest taki samotny dom" in tribute to Romuald Lipko. Sebastian Riedel will sing "W życiu piękne są tylko chwile" – one of the most beautiful Polish rock hits. The song will be dedicated to medical personnel around the world. Artists who have also confirmed their participation in the World Guitar Record include LeBurn Maddox, Jan Borysewicz, Jose Torres, Piotr Łukaszewski, Łukasz Łyczkowski, Wojciech Pilichowski, Marco Bartoccioni and Michael Molenda.

The World Guitar Record will be accompanied by a charity action for seriously ill children under the care of the ZOBACZ MNIE Foundation. Everyone who makes a donation of minimum 25 PLN will get a chance to win a unique guitar designed by Szymon Chwalisz, the maker of the legendary Woodstock guitars. The artist's special design work painted on the guitar depicts the deserted market square in Wrocław during the time of quarantine – the place that has been gathering thousands of people for years today stands empty as never before. The prize draw will take place on 8th May! For details, please visit www.zobaczmnie.org and www.heyjoe.pl.

This year's Guinness Guitar Record will be marked as a "special online edition": regardless of the result, next year we will still need a minimum of 7 424 guitars to break the record.
