What is the Guitar Guinness Record? The annual guitar festival is most of all an occasion for collective play, meetings and exchange of experience, and during this event, an attempt to break the Guinness record is made.

On 1st May the guitarists will play for the medical personnel!

 Riedel

The 18th edition of the Guitar Record starts on 1st May – this year adopting a unique online format. In a special music section, the guitarists will thank health care workers around the world with a collective performance of the song "W życiu piękne są tylko chwile". The legendary hit by the band Dżem dedicated to the medical personnel will be sung by Sebastian Riedel.

Like every year on 1st May, guitarists will attempt to form the World's Greatest Guitar Orchestra – this time online. They will perform "Hey Joe" and other guitar hits at home, on their balconies, in gardens, by open windows, or in their armchairs in front of the computer screen. They will also share the UniVibe sign that represents the uniting vibration of music. With this gesture and the song "W życiu piękne są tylko chwile" performed by Sebastian Riedel, the World's Greatest Guitar Orchestra will thank the health service for its dedication to saving lives during the pandemic.

– It's a contemplative and nostalgic song, and its chorus perfectly captures the beauty of the moment when we are playing together. We will also perform a song by Budka Suflera. Its beautiful chorus goes "and after the night comes the day and after the storm comes peace" – we're all waiting for that bright day to come after the dark night of the pandemic we're struggling with at the moment. I think that playing these songs will be a great experience for everyone – says Leszek Cichoński, the initiator of the Record.

To perform "Naiwne Pytania" ("W życiu piękne są tylko chwile"), all you need to know are the chords: G/e/D/e/a. The instructions on how to play are available on the event's official website.

Apart from the song by Dżem, the participants of World Guitar Record Online will hear, i.a., the greatest hits by Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. The artists will also pay tribute to Romuald Lipko, an outstanding composer and co-founder of Budka Suflera. The musical farewell will be attended by the band members – Tomasz Zeliszewski and Mietek Jurecki, accompanied by Bart Sosnowski on vocals.

We are playing online!

The streaming from Wrocław will start at 12:00 and will be available at www.heyjoe.pl, on the Record's official Facebook page and YouTube channel. The rehearsals for the performance of "Hey Joe" will take place at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The attempt to break the world record will begin, as always, at 4:00 p.m. The organisers encourage the guitarists to share the materials from the preparations for the event on social media. The best videos will be featured in the clip of the World Guitar Record 2020.

How to join the Record?

All you need is a guitar and elementary knowledge of the five basic C/G/D/A/E chords used in "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix. All types of guitars are permitted. You can also play other string instruments – ukulele, mandolin, banjo and balalaika. Please email your application on 1st May to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The application forms are available for download on the festival's official website. Submitting the application form is tantamount to receiving the Guitarist Certificate. For detailed information, please see the "How to participate" tab at www.heyjoe.pl.

This year's Guinness Guitar Record will be marked as a special online edition. For this reason, regardless of the result, next year we will still need a minimum of 7423 guitars to break the Record again.
